Pax Christi, a Catholic peace movement, has criticized the new wave of attacks on Islam in Austria, risalehhaber reports.

Issuing a statement, the group referred to production of an anti-Islamic vido-game in Austria, attacks on Islamic teachings and efforts to ban construction of mosques and minarets and criticized the new rise of Islamophobia in the country.

The statement said more mosques should be launched in Austria so that Muslims can exercise their religion.

It added that building mosques featuring minarets would help Muslims have a better sense of integration in society.

Freedom of speech and religious freedom are part of western democracy and these concepts should not be undermined in society, it went on to say.
